The PPGCOM of UFRJ is governed by its internal regulations, by the resolutions and other norms of the Postgraduate Teaching Council of UFRJ and by the current university legislation and is established in its academic instance: the School of Communication.

The regulation of the Graduate Program in Communication of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, currently in force, was approved by the Postgraduate Teaching Council of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (CEPG) on November 23, 2007, and is valid for all students enrolled.
