Practices and documentary images in contemporary audiovisual culture: art, essay, subjectivity
Description This research is based on the two research axes that were already contained in the project of the postdoctoral stage (realized in 2014/2015 in Birkbeck College). Therefore, the research agenda that has been structured during this period has continued. The first axis seeks to rethink the implications of the gesture of appropriation of archive images in the practice of the essayist documentary (and this aspect will be analyzed extensively throughout my research), that is, I have developed countless reflections - constructed from not only theoretical and Critics of the field of cinema and the audiovisual, but also from thinkers who reflect on the origin of the essay form in the history of philosophy and on the literary and subjective exercises in literature (besides the already classic references to the works of cinema thinkers and filmmakers) - which seek to assess the potential and limits of these practices. The second axis of this project, will analyze the relationship between documentary and contemporary art: a topic that will be a priority in my research agenda for the next two years and which will have as a priority the work of Cao Guimarães (therefore, a good part of this research will take as a reference The films, videos, photographs and video installations of this artist from Minas Gerais). This research has been carried out in the research group CIEC-PPGCOM / UFRJ and is linked to the line of research Technology of Communication and Aesthetics. |
